A christmas pledge

As we count the blessings in our own lives, and indeed the challenges that we have overcome and are dealing with at the moment. It can be a great idea, to focus on helping someone else. I found a wallet today on the street and was able to track down the person’s address, call their home via directory enquiry and deliver the wallet to them at work. It took an hour out of my busy day to do it, but it really made me feel good. If we all only did one thing a week that was generous and helpful to a random stranger, what a difference it would make to society.

People are so focused in on their own needs nowadays, that it has become socially divisive. It is blatantly celebrated in ads that shout out phrases like, my style or my choice. The individual has become paramount and society and community are being told where to go.

Is it any wonder that we are in such a crisis, when the most basic tenet of a civilisation – collective action and cohesion are being challenged every day.

It is time that we restored people’s faith in humanity – so from now on,  just do one little thing to help a stranger or society as a whole. You’ll feel really good for doing it, and hopefully it will mean someone will help you in turn.
